The 1951 Quilt is a pieced sampler quilt. Beginning January 1, 2010, one step of the instructions was presented each day, at the pace of approximately one block each month (sometimes more), followed by assembling the quilt. By December 31, 2010, you had a completed quilt top, if you followed along faithfully.
The construction of this quilt is quite simple. Some of the pieces are small, but the instructions are broken down into easy manageable steps. There are no set-in seams, (but you might learn how to do mitered corners) and there is no applique on this quilt. It’s suitable for ANY skill level, even a raw beginner.
The quilt was presented here on the blog as a Mystery (with 2 size options), but is soon becoming available as an individual pattern for purchase. I’ll update this post with pictures of the quilts, and with a link when the pattern becomes available (sometime in 2015).
Option #1: uses 12″ and 6″ blocks in the quilt; the finished quilt size is 67″ x 84″.
Option #2: uses 6″ blocks in the quilt, with some smaller filler units; the finished quilt size is 33 1/2″ x 42″.
Just found you and the Quilt-Along!! Whoo-Hoooo!! I’m a late starter, and will be doing the larger quilt option. Thank goodness summer is on its way and I’ll be able to catch up. This is going to be fun, fun, fun.
🙂
I am really behind the times. I want to start with the 1951 Quilt Along but just found your site. Could you help with what is needed and any instructions that you had blogged at that time. I know it is way past time and you are into the 1953 quilt along but any help you can give this beginner would be appreciated.
