Card party tonite. I served. J. W. Procter was there. Marie Burdett is going to be married. Me and Judy Anderson played 2 hands of canasta. Got a letter from Shirley Warren & she sent me a picture. Sophomore party tomorrow night. Daddy played canasta with woman from Honalula.
She just went to a party last night! I swear! Card parties were a popular event in those days. This one must have been plenty fancy, since the younger ones “served”. And a visitor from Honolulu — I’ll bet Bevier didn’t see that every day! I know she spelled “Honalula” the way she did because that’s the way Mildred would have pronounced it. That woman sure had a “way with words”. My own daughters could give you some of the funniest examples of the way Grandma would pronounce things, not to mention some of the phrases she would use!
It appears that J.W. was at the party without Marilyn . . . hmmmm. And she doesn’t say who Marie is marrying . . .
Judy Anderson is a good friend of Hazel’s, one year younger. Hazel and Judy remained good friends throughout Hazel’s life. You’ll be hearing a lot about Judy.
