Hazel Ilene Hyde was born September 19, 1936, the first-born child of Lavern and Mildred (Rector) Hyde. On Christmas Eve, in 1950, she received as a gift from her parents, a little red 5-year diary which, for the next few years, she faithfully wrote in every day.
This blog is a transcription of Hazel’s little red diary. Follow along for a peek into the life of a 1950’s rural farm girl as she wends her way through high school toward graduation and married life. You’ll get some laughs, shed a few tears, and if you’re old enough, do a little nodding in agreement over some of the memories it’ll bring up for you. Each day’s post will have an entry from Hazel’s diary, possibly a related story or news article, and maybe even a recipe or instructions for a project.
This blog is also a Quilt-Along Blog. Each year, there will be a new Quilt-Along (or possibly even two) for you quilters to participate in, along with tutorials and bonus projects sprinkled around as well.
Welcome to The Life of Hazel Ilene!
The journey begins January 1, 2010 . . .
