Finis, Doris & boys came over tonite. School starts a week from today. I’m glad. I made a pie, candy & cookies today & I’m tired. Was over at Mrs. Pfeiffers awhile.
Must have been discussing the embroidery project she’s doing for Mrs. Pfeiffer.
She sounds ready to get back to school. And no wonder she’s tired, after all that baking!
Since she doesn’t say what kind of pie, candy, or cookies she made, I’m going to just give you the pie crust recipe, and you can make whatever kind of pie you want. This pie crust recipe came from Aunt Ruby, and it’s easy and very good.
Aunt Ruby’s Pie Crust
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup Crisco
5-7 Tbsps. cold water
Mix the salt and flour together, then cut in the Crisco until the mixture is crumbs the size of peas. Add the cold water 1 Tbsp. at a time until dough forms. Let sit for a couple minutes before rolling out. This makes enough for one double-crust pie or two single-crust pies.
I will warn you that this dough does not freeze well, but you can refrigerate it for as much as two days before using it. It’s just better fresh, so I always make it right when I’m ready to use it. It doesn’t take much time.
My kids always liked it just rolled out, laid on a cookie sheet, sprinkled with cinnamon/sugar, and baked into “crispas”. So there’s another idea.
And for a cookie recipe, I’m linking to one of Hazel’s old standbys. My Cowboy loves these: Peanut Butter Cookies.
And after you’re all done with that, you can quilt, if you have any energy left. Today we’re finishing Block 11.
Option 1 (large quilt):
Today you need the two remaining Flying Geese units and the center pinwheel unit from your “Block 11″ baggie. Lay them out as shown.
Flip a left unit over onto the center, matching center points carefully, and pin in place. Stitch. Press the seam toward the center.
Add the right unit in the same manner, again matching the center points carefully and pinning. Stitch, and press the seam toward center.
Next, lay the side units out with this center unit as shown.
Flip the top unit down onto the center, match the centers and side seams, and pin in place. Stitch. Press the seam toward the top.
Add the bottom unit in the same manner, pressing the seam toward the bottom.
You are now finished with Block 11 — only one more to go!
Option 2 (small quilt):

Add the right unit in the same manner, again matching the center points carefully and pinning. Stitch, and press the seam toward center.

Add the bottom unit in the same manner, pressing the seam toward the bottom.
